Injuries happen everyday in the sport of Baseball. There is nothing new about that, multiple injuries happen as well. But to have 2 so graphic and bloody, bone cracking injuries in one day is far from the norm.
Hideki Matsui and Aaron Rowand both injured on the same night, but in different ways. Matsui while running down a short fly ball rolled over on his wrist clearly breaking it. Watching it reminded me of when Joe Thiesmann broke his wrist during a game.
Aaron Rowand jumped up to catch a ball and went right into the outfield fence in Philadelphia, breaking his nose on the top part of the fence, that has exposed metal on it. Not a week earlier, Rowand asked to have that fixed.
Rowand is one that goes all out to get the ball and just knew something like this could happen. The result Matsui out for about 3 months and Rowand out for a couple of weeks. Matsui apologized for it happening not necessary, but done by a guy from a culture were even injury needs to be apologized for.
Rowand is now a fan favorite more than ever in Phillie. In years past, guys like Kenny Lofton and Bobby Abreu have said they would never run into the wall to get a ball. But Rowand endeared himself to the all or nothing mentality of the Phillie fans.
