  • Players To Watch #1

Cameron Maybin OF Fla, This is his year. The prize player from the trade just a little over a year ago is poised to let lose. Maybin has been on this list before and is still very young. A eventual 5 tool guy he is a must own this year in all formats.
  • Players To Watch #2

Matt Wieters C Balt, With R. Hernandez being traded to the reds in the NL. Matt is taking over the young pitching staff of the O's. Will hit for AVG. and be solid defensively, look for power numbers to come along as the year and his career progresses.
  • Players To Watch #3

Neftali Feliz SP Tex, The Rangers needed to start building a pitching staff and no better a young cornerstone than Feliz. He is as close to a sure thing as you can find right now. A power right arm who moved up quickly from low A to Dble A last season will make the jump to the majors this year. If not out of spring training then not to far into the season the Rangers will need to give him a call.
  • Player To Watch #4

Aaron Poreda SP ChiW, People when they think of the Vasquez trade to the Braves think it was a dump of somoene Ozzie just did not like, BUT there was more too it and this Left hander is the real reason why. Look for huim to get a mid year call up and he will not dissapoint.
  • Player To Watch #5

Jason Heyward OF Atl, He will make schafer expendable for the Braves if they are in need of mroe pitching. Heyward is there best bat in the minors and a real star in the making. If you can grab him and stash him do so. Heyward wil be up soon enough and there to stay.
  • Player To Watch #6

Jeremy Hillickson SP T.B., I always try to find that one person most are not talking about, but have the chance to be someone everyone is talking about in a year or two. Hillickson is that guy, with such huge names ahead of him on the prospect epth chart Hillickson gets lost in the mix. I feel he could be the stable force that holds all these great young arms together. Someone to hold onto in AL only leagues and as he proves himself someone to grab in mix'd leagues as well.

Bourne is on the list still even though he made the club, I am not please with this he needs to start everyday and not sit on the bench.  Kyle Drabek was only drafted last year and is one of the top prospects in baseball, and yes that is Doug’s boy.

1. Carlos Carrasco LHP

2. kyle Drabek RHP

3. Adrian Cardenas 2B

4. Edgar Garcia RHP

5. Scott Mathieson RHP

Here Are The Top 10 Prospects For The Cubs

Posted by rotoenquire on March 29, 2007

If the Cubs could find room for Felix Pie it could be a fun year.

1. Felix Pie OF

2. Donald Veal LHP

3. Jeff Samardzija RHP

4. Tyler Colvin OF

5. Sean Gallagher RHP

6. Eric Patterson 2B

7. Scott Moore 3B

8. Ryan Harvey OF

9. Chris Huseby RHP

10. Mark Pawelek LHP

Donald Veal could get the call this year, Mark Prior and Kerry Wood should be traded at some point this year or get hurt again.  Leaving Angel Pagan too get a call, however I am not a fan of Pagan’s.

Mets Ready To Deal?

Posted by rotoenquire on March 29, 2007

The Mets are short on pitching this is no secret.  The Mets have tried to fill this need via free agency to no avail.  Good news of sorts maybe on the way with the club willingness to part with Lastings Milledge.

Were could the Mets send Milledge for some needed pitching?

The Angels could be willing to part with John Lackey if the Mets could add a youngster like Kevin Mulvey SP a 2005 draft pick with Lastings Milledge.

The White Sox who may not be in it by mid season could part with Jose Contreras.

Could be some interest chatter happening going on until the trading deadline.

Gagne Hurt?

Posted by rotoenquire on March 29, 2007

The Rangers will have Eric Gagne opening the season on the DL.  This is great new for people like me who got Akinori Otsuka in the draft for extra saves.  I have always been in the hopes that Gagne will recover and be a solid closer again, but that does not look to be the case.  If you can get Otsuka now.

Here Are The Top 10 Prospects For The Cardinals

Posted by rotoenquire on March 28, 2007

With a veteran club and few young guys making an impact you think this list would be more impressive.  However i feel the Cards have a thin minor league system at the present time.

1. Colby Rasmus OF

2. Jaime Garcia LHP

3. Chris Perez RHP

4. Blake Hawksworth RHP

5. Jon Jay OF

6. Bryan Anderson C

7. Adam Ottavino RHP

8. Mark McCormick RHP

9. Josh Kinney RHP

10. Darryl Jones OF

Josh Kinney has been on this list for a long time and every year he drops a bit on the chart.  By next season if nothing happens he most likely will not be on the list anymore.

Here Are The Top 10 Prospects For The Dodgers

Posted by rotoenquire on March 28, 2007

I like just a couple of those on this list.  One of them is several years away and has a name you may find familiar.

1. Andy LaRoche 3B

2. Clayton Kershaw LHP

3. Scott Elbert LHP

4. James Loney 1B

5. Entanislao Abreu 2B

6. Ivan DeJesus Jr. SS

7. Jonathan Meloan RHP

8. Blake DeWitt 2B

9. Josh Bell 3B

10. Preston Mattingly SS

I like both the bookends on this list.  Andy LaRoche brother of Adam LaRoche 1B Pirates should be up and have the full time job at some point this year for the Dodgers.  Preston Mattingly son of Don Mattingly is 4 or more years away, but with that bloddline watch out.

Who Is Closing For The Reds?

Posted by rotoenquire on March 28, 2007

As it stands right now the Reds may begin the year much as last year started.  David Weathers will get the call as closer, but should he faulter there are a couple nice options you should keep your eye on.

Todd Coffey has always been my favorite to be a closer I like his stuff and his youth, he could be a record setter when he gets the job.

Dustin Hermanson seems to be in the mix, this one I do not understand.  I like Hermanson as a setup man but nothing more.  If the Reds go with him like Weathers it will be for the short term.

The Mariners and J.J. Putz

Posted by rotoenquire on March 27, 2007

J.J. Putz is the Mariners closer for now and a long time too come.  But, with his injury and comming back from it Putz maybe giving some time too fully get ready.  The question then becomes who will take that role?  The answer is Brandon Marrow, the Mariners should have sent him down so he could get his armstreangth up too be a starter.  However he has only been pitching 2 innings a shot this spring which a huge tell.  He should be getting in 5 or more innings by now.

Bradon Marrow has shown he could pitch right now in the majors.  I hope the Mariners do get him in ready to be a starter, but a short stint in the pen as a closer won’t hurt and could help the M’s this year.

Indians And there Closer

Posted by rotoenquire on March 27, 2007

The Indians signed a one year 4.25 million dollar deal woth Joe Borowski.  Why only a one year deal the answer is actually very simple.  The Indians have two young prospects by the name of Tony Sipp and Edward Mujica.  Sipp is a strike out machine with a 11.65 K’s per 9 innings.  Hitters are just managing a .201 average against the left hander.  Last season he struck out 80 in 60.1 innings pitched.

Mujica was a machine in the minors last season he could not be touched.  Mujica went from A to Triple-A ball in one season and did not give up a run till just before being called up by the Indians.  Both Mujica and Sipp should compete to be set up men by mid season, but next year the job should be theres to fight over in spring training.
